President Donald Trump has authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the individual responsible for the Fort Hood attack, by an Army firing squad. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell made the announcement on Monday, nearly 17 years after the devastating incident.
Hasan was convicted for the 2009 assault at Fort Hood, during which he killed 13 people and injured 32 others. Witnesses reported that he shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he began firing.
The recommendation for Hasan's execution was put forward by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Parnell indicated that the Army secretary would be responsible for establishing the exact time and location for the execution.
Reflecting on the decision, Parnell stated, "Judgment day for Hasan has finally come."
