AEW Unveils New 'Clockwork Carnage' Match for WrestleDream, World Championship at Stake
All Elite Wrestling introduces a complex new match format, Clockwork Carnage, where the coveted AEW World Championship will be defended.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has consistently distinguished itself with a range of innovative and unique match concepts. Spectators have witnessed memorable encounters such as Stadium Stampede, Anarchy in the Arena, Blood and Guts, and various Casino Gauntlets, all contributing to the promotion's distinctive history. During a recent broadcast of "Collision," AEW revealed its latest addition to this lineage of inventive contests: Clockwork Carnage, slated to premiere at the upcoming WrestleDream event.
Understanding Clockwork Carnage Rules
The Clockwork Carnage match is designed for eight wrestlers and unfolds in a two-stage process to determine a victor. The match begins with two randomly selected competitors in the ring. Every three minutes thereafter, another randomly chosen wrestler will enter the contest. During this initial phase, any participant who is pinned or submits will be eliminated from the match. This elimination process continues until all eight wrestlers have officially entered the ring.
Once the eighth and final wrestler has joined the fray, the match transitions into its second phase: a 15-minute scoring period. Throughout these 15 minutes of intense action, each successful pinfall or submission will award one fall to the competitor achieving it. At the conclusion of the allotted time, the wrestler who has accumulated the highest number of falls will be declared the winner of the Clockwork Carnage match.
AEW World Championship on the Line
Adding significant prestige and intrigue to the inaugural Clockwork Carnage bout, the reigning AEW World Champion, Will Ospreay, will put his title on the line. Ospreay secured the championship by defeating Kenny Omega at the All In event in August. However, before he can defend his championship in the unique environment of Clockwork Carnage at WrestleDream, Ospreay must first successfully retain his title against Kazuchika Okada at Grand Slam France, scheduled for Wednesday.
Furthermore, two prominent wrestlers, Jack Perry and Samoa Joe, are set to compete in a qualifying match to earn a spot in the Clockwork Carnage. Samoa Joe recently made his return to AEW at All Out following a brief absence from competition.
WrestleDream is scheduled to take place on October 17 at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida, promising an evening of high-stakes professional wrestling action.
